This is an update of where I am at as I set my 2019 goals and what my plans and goals are for the future.
As I start to work through my goals for the upcoming year.
I again ask myself the same questions I ask each year.
I wrote this on my blog post personal goals answers to my questions.
I am satisfied that my personal goals are pretty well under control and don’t need much tweaking.
This year I am also reviewing my business goals and what action I have taken over the past twelve months to try to find a direction for my blog to head. I settled on a slogan =old fogey, homeless nomad trying to build an online business.
How will this help you?
I hope that by sharing my thoughts you will get some ideas on how to build your business and personal 2019 goals.
This post and my blog may contain affiliate links. If you click on a link and make a purchase, I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. You can find full details in my Affiliate Disclosure Page.
Can I build an online business and make money online?
I constantly ask myself this question, and I do believe I can. It is still the business model that I am stuck on. I have looked at selling products on Amazon and although I haven’t ruled this out completely, I have had to put it on the back-burner for now.
To consider the exact niche I should be focusing on is a little difficult. I am not an expert at building an online business although this is what I have been trying to work toward. I have therefore simply been sharing the information I find as I go.
I started this blog but did not post enough to get the attention of the search engines. I recently worked on fixing up the SEO on most of my older posts and have started to post 3 or 4 times a week. I hope to be able to continue to do this as I move forward into 2019.
Can I create a membership site?
I do still want to help others and save them a lot of time by putting together a membership site.
I aim to build an information membership website that will have all the information I find so that others can start online cheaply. I want to help them start a business and to build themselves as a brand that people relate to. I want to cater
I will put my own photos on my website that members can use royalty free to increase their choice and I hope this will help people get some unique photos to help in their online journey. My membership website will also help me to have everything in one place.
It is time consuming trying to put together this information and manage to achieve my 3-4 blog posts a week. However, I am working on it.
I have tried to relook at a niche that I can either move the direction of this blog toward or start another. This time with good content from the very start. My first choice is to continue with this blog.
How can I find my niche?
What am I good at? I’ve done a lot of things during my life many of which are listed as topics in my website and social media profile banners.
My issue is that I am not particularly good at anything.
I do have a lot of interests but not a real passion, so I don’t have a very thorough knowledge of any particular subject.
I am a bit of a Jill of all trades but master of nothing.
This has been my biggest stumbling block. I thought that there would be many beginners like me looking for help and not wishing to fork out bookoo dollars trying to navigate their way around the internet.
I believe that my niche is heading towards helping other newbies with the thought processes that are needed to consider your online adventure a business rather than a hobby.
Do I need to procrastinate?
I do a lot of thinking but don’t take action and I don’t tend to get things off the ground. I chop and change my mind about what direction I am heading and don’t fully focus on one path. I tend to be flighty and give up and really just don’t know how to fix my faults.
This means I tend to swing around in topics for my blog without having a great sense of direction.
I know I need to start working through my notes properly and put all my jumbled thoughts, ideas and information into some sort of plan without stopping and trying again so that I don’t encounter another roadblock down the track. This will form part of my 2019 Goals.
I need to find some way to break through the wall and actually move forward. Hopefully with some plan of action that actually works.
How to make money online?
This remains the $64,000 question. I know that I want to make money online, but I need to find out how I can really make it happen. At the moment it remains a wish and I am going around in circles trying to find the magic light bulb moment.
Do I continue with research?
I am undertaking the Click funnels Bootcamp to learn more about email marketing and promoting products.
I know it is important to continue to research to keep up to date, but I will start doing a little less and a little more training and building.
Can I promote through Social Media
I am happy to say that I had some achievements in my social media profiles.
If you plan to start an online business and have customers from all over the world, then one way to get your brand known is to promote it worldwide.
If you promote yourself as the brand you should have a good relationship which could lead to sales when you release your products.
For this reason, I will continue promoting myself across social media as big and as fast as I can.
As I build my product brand, I also promote it through my KerryAnn social media network and use myself as an influencer asking my followers to look at my new product, website etc.
Even though I am still learning, I will continue to record what I am doing and the time I am spending in order to build my social media network across the various platforms. I will be looking at the current legal ways to make money through the various social media platforms.
On each social media bio and instead of a photo, I have used ‘topics of interest’ to describe me and what I am all about. Instead of the home page of my website, I created a page for each social media platform outlining what I hope to achieve. I hope that this will cause people who come across my social media profiles to understand more about me and who I am.
My You Tube failure
I started my YouTube account with animated voice overs but wasn’t really happy as the voice was too fake, and there was no expressions and words would run together and not sound right. I am currently trying to see what I can do with google slides and a microphone. I don’t have a studio room to film from as I live in a motorhome.
Therefore, my entire home is 3.5m x 8m (20190’ x 24’) and my computer bench is .5m x 2m (20198” x 6’) without good lighting. Just a fact of life living in a small space. There are 2 of us in this space so I have background noise and movement to allow for.
I’m not going to make excuses, just need to find ways to overcome so that I don’t get a lot of interruptions trying to make videos. I worked out with Powerpoint how I can do it, but my laptop does not have a decent microphone, so next purchase will be a microphone.
Email Marketing Bombed
I did try a 90day email campaign and it was a complete flop. I earnt zero dollars gross. I did it all wrong.
I was given an email list with the program and guess what – these people were not interested in me.
I didn’t take it personally, I guess that they had no reason to want to hear what I had to say. I was the original cold calling salesman and not everyone wanted fish oil.
I will try again, but I will start with a list that wants to hear what I am talking about. I will put together some checklists on a range of subjects and use them to gather followers in different subject topics.
I purchased some PLR products and will start working through them for an outline, together with my own research and notes, I plan to end up with a ‘product’ to offer for the email address.
I have some affiliate links in my blog and will continue to add them as I show how I use various products moving forward. I always declare the affiliate relationship and trust people will understand that I need to eat too. Therefore, If I can make a small referral fee, then it helps enormously. Or it will do if I can reach people in a manner that they can relate to.
I have written a series of blog posts on the actions I have taken to build my Pinterest profile. It is going well and sending traffic to my blog.
This is the final post in the series and there are links at the bottom so that you can work your way through the process.
How many hours to I need to work?
What makes me different to other internet personalities. I guess the major difference is that I want eventually to work the least amount of hours a week as possible. I want to earn passive income, but from automatic streams that only require tweaking. I certainly don’t want to spend 2 or 3 days a week preparing and presenting a webinar then spending time coaching others and employing people to help with customer service and website software upgrades.
I wrote a blog post on my take on Tim Ferris’ book The Four Hour Work Week. Here is a link to that blog post the 4 hour work week – can you do this?
I will continue to learn and train
Ongoing, I will still spend a couple of days researching, training and learning within Wealthy Affiliate. You can find a review of this website on this post What is Wealthy Affiliate about – this may shock you.
I participate in community simply because I enjoy that. I find it relaxing. I interact better with people online than face to face. I’m a bit of a loner and prefer my own company. I’d prefer to read a book rather than attend a get together. I’m quiet, shy and can’t seem to think of things to talk about. I tend to just sit and listen or worse – start thinking in my head about other things – and am away with the fairies till someone jolts me back to reality.
I think I know in my head where I want to go but I need to find a way through the fog that surrounds me. My personal goals which I outline on, Personal goals answers to my questions, are on track, mostly, although I need to start doing daily tasks to continue on the right path.
My biggest issue is income. I earn just enough to live and promote my bricks and mortar business but not enough to waste on online opportunities that go nowhere. I need to do a lot of work and continue to build my KerryAnn brand cheaply.
I need to put it all together in a plan of action and share my past and my future with my readers and social media followers so that I can become an ‘internet brand’ and hope to help others do the same.
What do you think? Can I build this online business? I would love to hear your thoughts on my ups and down.
